Piolo Pascual losing his charm

Don't be shocked if ever you saw Piolo on GMA 7 or you wouldn't see him anymore on soaps and movies in ABS-CBN and Star Cinema in the near future. Why? He is beginning to lose his charm. On his soap with KC Concepcion, Lovers in Paris, it isn't their loveteam that many viewers are anticipating to see, it's with Zanjoe Marudo. Even Sharon Cuneta prefers the loveteam between Zanjoe and her daughter, KC. The box office appeal isn't as huge as John Lloyd Cruz. Perhaps the audience knows. It's a good thing he is moving from being in front to behind the camera by producing movies and concerts.

Sharon show needs to reformat

Haven't you noticed lately the "Sharon" show? I'm kinda sick and tired watching the same format of her show. She would guest stand up comedian or celebrities and then they would perform either sing and dance on a small platform while Sharon is just lying on the couch smiling, laughing and making comments. Almost mediocre! She has to live up to her image. She's Sharon Cuneta! Don't just lie on the couch...do something! It could burn your fats, you know. It doesn't even feel a talk show to me. It doesn't mean that when your show rates and you have a name you would give your fans a mediocre performance. Where are your dancers? Why such a small venue? Where are the extravagant performances? It's only once a week why not make it glitzy with over the top numbers and performances? I miss the days during The Sharon Cuneta Show when every performance is just simply marvelous.

Ninja ASS-asin

I was surprised to see the name "Rain" at the closing credit of the movie Ninja Assasin. I'm not a fan that is why after all those kicks and drama it was at the end of the movie I figured that it was him. Well, he's pretty good in singing and dancing and I didn't expect that he could kick ass. The movie wasn't really that bad but I won't recommend it especially if there are other movies to be seen. I thought it was really good because the trailer of the movie was awesome but I was fooled.

Heather Locklear in the new Melrose Place

I was thrilled when I saw Heather Locklear in the new Melrose Place. She still got it but there is one thing that I noticed...she aged. Of course, everyone does. But there's something about her face that you would want to stare and scrutinize it. Was it the make-up?. Oh, it's the botox...of course! Here's the younger Amanda...

New Show: The Bottomline with Boy Abunda

I can't wait to see this. I'm a fan of Boy Abunda so definitely this Saturday I'll tune in. But my only comment is the design of the title animation. It's simple pero parang may kulang. The layout of the graphic elements are somehow off. Well, not that crummy but I know it could've been better. Maybe the producers of the show together with the artists didn't put so much time and effort. It's Boy Abunda after all.

Black and white

Claudine Barretto is now a Kapuso!

I was shocked when I've read that Claudine Barretto has finally transferred to GMA, the kapuso network. She has been with ABS-CBN since she started acting, that was like 17 years ago. I still remembered when there was this first issue regarding her transfer way back. She said she couldn't imagine herself transferring to any other station. And now what? She just did. And it was so sudden!

The news wasn't flattering...for Claudine. And it wasn't a flattering decision for both. When Ai-Ai delas Alas was about to make a move to transfer to GMA, the top execs of ABS did all what they can to stop her and offered her TV series so she would remain as one of their top talents. But there are no words yet as to why they came up with that decision with Claudine. ABS-CBN just let her go. It wasn't amicable I supposed since everything was abrupt. I was still in the state of waiting her new soap with her sister Gretchen. Of course, I doubt if Gretchen would still say yes for a project in GMA with Claudine. Kris Aquino and Ruffa Gutierrez are all in ABS...so she has to be in the same network where the cream of the crop are. Hindi sya papatalbog.

There are plenty of reasons why Claudine transferred. To top it all, she has no soap or any projects from ABS. She has family to support. Her last soap was Iisa Pa Lamang last year and her last movie was Sukob last 2006. Another reason is that there are new talents in ABS who deserve more attention since they give ABS more cash flows. Just try to imagine Angel Locsin has already new soap in the works and not to mention a new movie with Aga Muhlach. She was nominated for Best Actress in International Emmy Awards. The last movie of Bea Alonzo was a monster hit in the box office. Younger talents like Maja Salvador and Erich Gonzales with their respective soaps also showed a strong presence in the TV rating.

Conclusion: Her transfer wasn't amicable and ABS-CBN let her go because she is now a waning star!

New Moon - New love lost

My friend's wife went out to see New Moon with her friend. He decided to hang out in our office while he waited for his wife to finish the movie. I asked him why not join them instead. He said it wasn't his kind of movie, "my wife and her friend were excited and giggling to see it". After a couple of hours, his wife texted, "the movie is awesome!". And so I was curious.

The next day, I asked one of my friends to accompany me to see the movie. I was shocked, there was a long line of moviegoers. Of course, it was expected. The movie has a great number of fans and followers. Many of them were teens and college students.

When I fell in line, there was a girl behind me accompanied by a man. She was a mestiza, petite and she almost resembled the face of Bea Alonzo. She was in her early twenties. She was smokin'! I couldn't explain it but somehow I felt something. Sort of a rush in my blood stream whenever I would take a glimpse of her. Then I caught her staring at me then our eyes locked and I couldn't take my eyes off her for a second or two. Her boyfriend was just beside her and this was happening, I thought. And so I focused myself not to be distracted by her presence. For a moment, I just focused my attention at my cell phone since my friend hadn't arrived yet. I listened to their conversation intently. Later I realized that they were not lovers. The man was still in the courting stage. I envied him because he wasn't good looking. Hindi din sya maporma pero malakas ang loob to court and pursue such a beautiful piece of creation. Kaya pala they didn't hug though the man was trying to hold her hand.

Later, I heard, "E di mag-CR ka na. Dito na lang ako. Wait kita". It was the girl. She said it twice but somehow the boy didn't respond. He just stayed there. Sayang!

Someone waved at me. It was my friend. Then I typed something in my cell phone then I showed my mobile phone's screen to my friend. I told him the story. So he took a quick glance at the girl behind us and he nodded and he smiled. He agreed.

Later, I felt her arms brushing on mine. She was standing not behind me but somewhat beside me, on my right. I felt a sudden gush of blood in my head...there! Down there. I couldn't resist it and it happened. Fuck! I was wearing my tight jeans. In just a few seconds, I realized that the one of the staff of the cinema in front of us was staring at my crotch. I hid behind my friend who was laughing. The more I became conscious of what happened, the more other people stared at me and my you-know-what. I felt embarrassed and I promised not to wear those jeans again.

"Sige, mag-CR ka na. Mahaba pa naman ang pila". It was the girl again. But the boy just stayed there. I was thinking if he went to the restroom, I would talk to her and ask her number, of course with the help of my friend. I'm kinda shy type you know...but the bloody bastard just didn't move a muscle. Maybe, somehow, he knew.

Later, we were the next on line. We bought the ticket and assigned our seats. I looked for her and she was in the other ticket booth. We were already finished but they were still in the ticket booth. There would be other time and other beautiful creations, I thought. But there would only be one like you...

...Another love lust...uh...lost pala!

The movie was kinda disappointing. I thought it would be just like the first one but it wasn't. I don't know...I just didn't like it. I just waited for the movie to be over. Parang mababaw lang sya. It wasn't awesome. But I understand why others love it. They were fans.

Filipino talents invading the world

There are great Filipino talents being born everyday. Talents who are worthy of attention and pride. Just a couple of days back, we heard of Rhap Salavar performed in The Ellen de Generes Show. Charice Pempengco wowed Oprah and the world. Well, of course, among these talents, it's Manny Pacquiao who would always steal the spotlight. But with all the intrigues throwing at him I just wish he would be a better person and a true hero and stay faithful to his wife and family.

Manny F*ck-quaio

I saw TV Patrol last night and there was a clip on Manny Pacquiao's interview regarding his affair with Krista Ranillo.

Many filipinos look up to you. You should be a role model.

Manny won..his marriage is about to fail!

I texted one of my friends and challenged him for a bet. I chose Cotto for some reason. Maybe because Pacman has already won for several times now and he and his family has enjoyed the fruits of his fights. He has millions, adored by many and all he has is sheer happiness and blessings. If ever he lost, it's nothing. It would be just a lesson learned - to keep his feet on the ground. After the second round, I withdrew my bet because it's pretty obvious that Pacman would win. And he did.

Right after the fight, I tuned in to ABS-CBN's The buzz. Of course, their first topic was about Pacman's fight and it wouldn't be just that. It would be so bland if it was just about the fight. So what if he won, we're all pretty sure that he would. The issue: Krista Ranillo's relationship with Manny made the afternoon exciting. The good thing about The Buzz is that the hosts are friends with a lot of who's who in showbiz that is why they have all the latest news real time. Kris Aquino received a text message from Jinkee Paquiao about the so-called friendship between Pacman and Krista. Though Kris didn't read the text message on air, it's pretty obvious that Jinkee was hurt and somehow there's truth about the issue. Kris showed the text message to Ruffa and Boy and both were shocked of what they've read.

Friendship should always be questioned between a man and a woman especially if one of them is already committed. The frequency of being together would make anyone's relationship closer and stronger. I've seen these things happened with my friends and it all started with just being friends. Single and beautiful girls should STAY AWAY with married guys (and vice versa). Being friends with them would lure you until you find yourself trapped and you can't get away with it.

If you were introduced with someone, no matter how beautiful a person is, just ask him/her. "Are you eff'ing married?" If the answer is, "I'm single", follow it up with the question, "Are you eff'ing sure?" just to make sure that he is. However, if he said, "I'm married", just shake his hands and turn your back. Don't further the conversation unless it's business and you're gonna make money out of it. Just don't make friends with someone who is already married. Don't further your friendship. You're always at the losing end.

The movie 2012

As I entered the mall, I was surprised when I saw all the people seemed to be sweaty - almost all were fanning themselves. I learned that the mall's aircondition system went down for almost several hours. My friend and I decided to see the movie 2012. I saw long lines in the ticket booth. There were like 6 cinemas to accommodate the movie. The moviegoers were all oblivious of the heat - all were patiently waiting for their turns. I asked one of the staffs of the moviehouse and she said that the AC was also out inside the cinema but blowers were being used as an alternative. She even escorted us inside the cinema so that we could feel it ourselves. It wasn't as warm as I expected...it seemed to be ok. So we decided to fall in line. If it wasn't free then maybe I would have to wait the next day to see the movie but my friend has free ticket and so I obliged.

The movie was really a treat! It wasn't a waste of money (of course, it was free after all). I really felt that I remained at the edge of my seat through the entire length of the movie! I also literally felt the heat of the melting core of the earth (the AC was down inside the cinema). The visual effects was spectacular. It's definitely a movie to see for friends and family.

The New iMac is making it big!

I've posted about the new iMac a couple of weeks back and according to some reports, its performance it really impressive according to this benchmark. I suggest if you're planning to buy the new iMac, choose for i7 instead of i5 since the former is just $200 more expensive than i5 but it is far greater in performance.

Life as a Motion Designer

I was packing my things and made sure that everything I needed was all in my bag - my laptop, charger, DVD recordable, ballpen and even marker. I just have to make sure that all is packed so that just in case my client called me or emailed the revisions then I have all the things I needed. My friends and I decided to meet in one of my friend's condo. Fortunately, she has wifi. When I came to her place, my friend told me that she just came from vacation and she really enjoyed water rafting. She showed me a video where she and her friends were rafting. It was really exhilarating. I enjoyed watching it. She asked me for advice on how to edit her videos since she has a couple of video clips and she wanted to make a music video.

I got my macbook pro and gave her an overview of video editing. I also showed them some of my current projects which include a TV plug (I can't show the TV plug since it's not yet shown in Dubai, bawal ata yun) to be shown in Dubai, I think it would be shown at Pinoy TV - a rock festival concert which includes bands like the Dawn, Rico Blanco, the Pupil and many other foreign artists on November 13. I also showed them a finished AVP for DOLE (shown below, just the intro). Instantly, they loved the animation which, by the way, correctly called as motion graphics. Now, people whose profession is to animate graphics are called motion designers. Some would call it as motion graphics artists, digital designers, etc. But now, in the digital design world, it is rightfully termed as motion designer.

They asked me how did I learned all those stuffs since six years ago we were all from the same field and company - we're all technical support engineers or commonly known as call center agents. It's simple, I got bored and tired of the same shitz...I love the movies and everything that goes with it - the magic of movie making including the special effects, visual effects and motion graphics. But it is in motion graphics that I fell in love with. And yes, even the entertainment and showbiz world! No, I'm not a Fine Arts graduate. In fact, I'm a licensed ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineer).

At first, it was just a hobby. I edited videos of my colleagues' birthday or their wedding. Then suddenly I wanna learn more not just editing. I was fascinated by the opening title sequences in the movies. Later I learned that it was called motion graphics. I researched on the tools or softwares needed on how to create those animations. Since my usual shift back then was graveyard and I hardly fell asleep during daytime (imagine I only had 3-4 hours of sleep), during those sleepless hours, I bought books and studied motion graphics. I also tried tutorials in the web.

After about two years in call center, I had enough! I quit without knowing what would happen next. I just wanted some peace of mind and I wanted to shift my career - something I love doing. But what? I knew that TV stations wouldn't hire me as video editor or motion graphics artist, I wasn't a Fine art graduate and all my work experiences were more of technical in nature. I didn't know anyone from such field. Though I have a feeling before that my sample works were even better from the ones I saw in ABS-CBN or GMA (ang kapal di ba hehehe)...well not all naman, yung iilan lang...Until I decided to go back in the province and unwind.

After a month, I went back here in Manila and a friend of mine forwarded an email. It was a job ad for motion graphics designer in one of the largest networks in the country. Sabi nya, I should try daw kasi nga mahilig din lang ako sa video editing e i-try ko na...there's no harm naman in trying. And so I did.

To make the story short, I emailed and they responded. I showed them my portfolio and they liked it. I got in. I still remember the first time I saw my work on air. I nearly cried. It was also my dream to create a music video, a TVC, an opening title sequence and see my name at the closing credit of a movie. Everything happened and it was sheer happiness. Just priceless. It was way too far from being a technical support or a call center agent. It's just more rewarding and you would actually see people appreciating your work. When I was in college, I often dreamt of myself in a boardroom full of creative people brainstorming. And it came true, it was really an awesome feeling especially after those sleepless nights of meeting a deadline of a TVC and you see your work on air, seeing it on television with your friends and family. Again, the feeling is just priceless.

I wanted to share to you my website of all my works but I'm in the process of updating it. I will post it here soon. Before, my main reason in blogging is to share my experiences when I went abroad (Dubai) to seek for greener pasture after I resigned from my work as motion designer. It was a funny experience though - from my departure here in Manila to working in UAE. You will also learn a great deal once you've read it. I will post it soon. Should you have any comments, please do so. You can also send me an email if you have questions regarding this matter or just about anything. Problems or career advice? Send me an email as long as you think we're on the same phase.

Saved by the Smell

I ran out of perfume and was window shopping a couple of days ago. My previous perfumes were all given to me by my sister abroad and I didn't have the slightest idea how much a bottle of perfume costs. I was stupefied by its prices after I window shopped. Sizes of around 90-100 ml of brands like Hugo Boss, Bulgary and etc. is almost Php 4,000. Fortunately, my sister arrived yesterday and as soon as she opened her luggage, I quickly grappled for 2 bottles of perfume - Hugo Boss and Bulgari. Wow, I just saved about Php 8000 plus worth of perfume! Between the two, Bulgari lasts longer and smells just right for me.

Christmas Station ID: ABS-CBN vs GMA 7

I saw ABS-CBN's Christmas Station ID and I instantly fell in love with the song. It's great. Its melody is high-spirited and kinda bouncy. If I would have to compare the song and its visuals, then the song still outshines the video. The song is great but the video is just ok. I still love the idea where there are many settings or scenes used. Para kasing nasa isang studio lang sila, the ABS-CBN Stars, then embellished it (the studio) with Christmas decors. The concept of Kapamilya stars mingling with the common tao, though it has been done a countless times in every station ID of both stations, is still ok since it depicts interaction, sharing and love.

Somehow, seeing the stars lip-synching with the song gave me goosebumps like who's who - sino ang may pinakamatagal na exposure at sino yung tipong panghuli. There are new faces like Coco Martin (wow, I can't believe it! he's here to stay na talaga), the stars of Katorse, Karylle, Susan Roces, Alesssandra de Rossi and Gabby Concepcion. Hey, was it Rafael Rossel there? For all I know wala syang projects or any TV shows, why the exposure? hala.... Angelica Panganiban, no Derek? Angel Locsin side by side with John Lloyd and Luis is in another row...why? Still hurts? At syempre pa si Bro...katabi nya si Miss President Charo Santos...lakas ah!

Why there is no Kris Aquino in sight?! No Claudine? I think Kris has a valid reason meron ata syang shoot or something (she explained it in SNN). Pero I think Claudine not being there...uhm, she dismissed the invitation perhaps kasi nga wala syang any projects na medyo matagal tagal na sa ABS...may konting pitik kumbaga hehehe

Here is the recording session and it was really awesome...to the creators of the song, you're all bloody genius! Ang galing! It's also funny to see the stars in their almost raw look - no make up with simple clothes on.

If there is ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID, of course, meron din ang GMA...

No, of course, the song itself is not comparable. For the nth time now, the effort in any TV station IDs GMA has produced is not as much as ABS-CBN's. The melody is just like any other song they have used/performed in the past. I could even change the lyrics and it could even be used in a soap. I couldn't elaborate more..it's too ordinary. The video is just like a montage of just about anything. They have used this concept before. Please...be more creative.

After comparing the two station IDs, parang may kakaiba akong naging feeling sa kapamilya stars. I wonder how it feels like yung isa ka sa mga stars ng ABS na kumakanta then the camera would focus on you. It would be a heck of an experience! Very classy kumbaga!

Still, the song is really awesome.

The SM Annex is the New Gilmore

My favorite place when it comes to buying electronic gadgets and computer accessories is the new SM Annex North Edsa. Before, I usually had to go to Gilmore hoping to score a low price. But comparing the prices between Gilmore and the SM Annex showed that Annex is more practical - with its price, comfort and safety. Why would you spend an hour or so roaming around looking for the lowest possible price in a pesky, crowded and reeky place when there's an alternative.

The SM Annex - where the place boasts its modern and sleek design. The surrounding is so comfy. All the branded products like Intel, Redfox, Belkin have their own respective stores where you could buy items at low prices. The cyberzone is a complete spot where all the products and its brands merge that define today's technology.

Prices of each store are competitive. Here's a tip to score a low price. Ask a store for your target item's price. Go to another store and ask the same item's price. Tell them that the other store has a lower price than them. Most of the store would try to lower their price until you decide which would give you the best reasonable price.

Carmina V: Kahapon, Ngayon At Bukas

People gathered around CrePes & Cream. At first, I thought there was a fight. Later did I realize that the commotion was caused by a shoot which starred Carmina Villaroel. I saw her from afar. Yes, she wasn't that young Cathy (her role in defunct show Palibhasa Lalake) anymore, but still that same Carmina. She is still that same girl who fell in love with a man-turned-woman Rustom Padilla a.k.a. BB Gandang Hari. The main difference...she's now more mature and wiser.

When I saw her, parang hindi ko na makita sa kanya ang nakaraan. The wounds were all healed. I still remember years ago when she was interviewed in the Buzz or Showbiz Lingo ata. The issue was about Rustom Padilla's sexuality. I remember her saying, "...siguro naman kung may makakapansin nun, e ako yung unang makakahalata. Pero wala eh..."

Ngayon, lahat ng mga haka-haka, lahat ng pagtatanggol, lahat ng mga tanong...nasagot na, tapos na. I just couldn't imagine how did she handled it all. I'm sure it wasn't only painful but traumatic. How the heck did she manage to fall in love again? Fortunately, it seems that everything worked out fine with her new partner Zoren Legaspi and seeing her with 2 kids, she seems to be complete.

Ano kaya nararamdaman nya everytime she would see BB Gandang Hari? Natatawa? May pitik pa kaya? How would she feel when she sees BB now all lady-like na minsan sa buhay n'ya she kissed and made love to this woman?

I thought I heard one time in an interview with BB Gandang Hari when asked if it's ok with her if she would star opposite Zoren Legaspi, BB said, "yes...but as a director". One thing I would suggest to Carmina, ok lang kung makatrabaho ni Zoren si BB basta nandun ka din. Baka mamaya after the movie ma-link yung dalawa maging BB-Zoren o Boren yung tambalan nila. Kasi, yung always togetherness ng kahit sino would always result to something like emotional attachment. Before I end up, let's reminisced this short clip when BB was still the hunky Rustom.

Mobility: Notebooks and Accessories

10 Years ago, only a few got laptops and notebooks. Now, you can see them just about anywhere. The prices reduced significantly. New brands also appeared. It's one of the must-have gadgets after cell phones. Computer notebooks most common accessories are bags and cases. There are various brands that offer comfort, endurance and safety for your notebooks. But what brand is really reliable yet affordable.

The most common brands for bags and cases for your notebooks are Belkin and Case Logic. These bags are affordable and they are designed to protect your laptops from simple bumps to accidentally dropping your notebooks. I have bought both brands for my Macbook Pro, 15". If I have to compare which brand is affordable and reliable, I have to choose Belkin bags.

Why Belkin?

Most Belkin products have sleek and minimal design. It's so simple and clean. There are variety of colors to choose from. If you compare the prices between Case Logic and Belkin, say you opt for 15" notebook bag, the latter is a tad cheaper than the former. The foam-like pouch that protect your notebook is surprisingly so much thicker compared to that of the Case Logic. This part of the bag is crucial since it protects your laptops from minor to major bumps.

I would also suggest to buy Belkin bags on its store. Don't you know that there is only one Belkin Store here in Asia? It can be found in the 4th floor SM Annex, North Edsa. I also noticed that if you purchased any Belkin product, example an FM transmitter for your car/ipod and you buy it in other store which has that item, Belkin store has cheaper price. Recently, my friend and I bought an FM transmitter. In Mac center, its price is Php 2,900. In Belkin store, the same item cost only Php 2,700.

Child of Pain

I just wanna share you a poem I wrote when I was on college. I was full of angst then. I saw the movie Interview with the Vampire and I was inspired by it. I was a vampire fanatic back then. I tried to taste my own blood. I even cut myself so that I could see my own blood dripping but I only did that twice and I was inebriated. If there were true vampires, I could have offered myself to be one of them. I found it very mystical yet very classy. I even bought Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. I was fascinated by vampires.

I never thought that there would be a vampire mania in the movies like The Twilight Saga and TV series such as True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. These shows are awesome. I can't get enough of them. Let's cut to the chase, here's my poem...

Drink my blood with all your heart
Let it drip on your luscious lips
Drink and your soul shall be ripped
Feel my pain and it shall be yours.

Hear my cries like that of hell
Hear my shouts like a ringing bell
Succumb in these palms of mine
And be my child wanted like a wine.

Let us dance my beloved child
Ask not what the music is playing but be wild
Cling to me your soul I shall build
Be triumphant, rejoice...you are my child!

Patient X: You really have to be patient!

I was watching The Buzz last sunday, November 1, and on their segment, POV, Kris blurted na maganda daw ang Patient X sabi sa kanya ng isang pari.

"Para isang pari ang magsabing maganda ang pelikula it means na maganda talaga yun," she said.

Oo nga naman, di ba? And she reiterated it before the show ends and Ruffa even reminded the audience again. So yun ang dahilan why I was compelled to see the movie.

The Opening Title Sequence. I love the idea that the movie is trying to make a difference, or at least, make an effort in its opening credits. They could've have done it in a simpler way like fade in and fade out the names of the characters but they made it very artsy. Ok na sana yung blood splatter with the names on its side. Dun pa lang halatang 3D na at hindi na n'ya kailangang ipatagilid pa yung blood splatter unlesss another image would appear e kaso wala. Parang na-excite sya masyado at pinakikita nya na 3D yung whole title sequence. He could've made it simpler by not manuevering the camera (in After Effects) side to side that much. Dito sa ginawa kong opening title sequence para sa Behind the Scene ng Ouija, mapapansin nyo na I didn't move the camera too much. I just zoomed in and out the camera. Ayaw ko yung idea na yung blood splatter e tumatagilid pa kaya nakikitang flat yung blood splatter. It's not flattering.

The movie is trying too hard na maging tipong heart-pounding and makes you hold- your- breath type na pelikula. The director failed on this. I couldn't elaborate more kasi parang wala talaga. Trying hard na maging horror movie. I patiently waited for the movie to end. Kaya pala Patient X, kasi pati moviegoers would have to be really patient! The last time I saw a local film na natakot ako e yung Sukob. But if you were Richard's friend or in a way you're related...suportahan nyo naman yung tao.
